eBook Formatting for Self-Publishers
The prices quoted below are based on “fiction” (novel-style books, straight narrative, biography). These books are the simplest to eformat, and incidentally produce the best results on eReaders and eReading apps.
Poetry usually requires more specialised formatting, and non-fiction frequently incorporates technical elements such as tables, footnotes, a more complex Table of Contents… If your book falls into either of these categories I will be happy to discuss its eformatting with you and provide a quote once I have a clear idea of what’s involved.
Current eBook formatting rate
Per 1,000 words: UK £0.90p / €1.00 / US $1.40.
The table below gives an example of the current price of formatting a 90,000 word novel.
|Manuscript example — a novel of 90,000 words||UK £||Euro €||US $|
|One MOBI and one EPUB file, ready for uploading. (These incorporate your "blurb" and book cover image. See Materials Required)||£80.00||€90.00||$126.00|
|One Smashwords .doc document file||£80.00||€90.00||$126.00|
|Inclusion of decorative graphical elements (e.g. fancy chapter headings), images (supplied by client), each||£0.33p||€0.36c||$0.50¢|
|Hyperlinks (to external site, or internal within the book, for example footnotes, manual table of contents), each||£0.33p||€0.36c||$0.50¢|
(These are actual costs: there are no hidden taxes, and any currency conversion or transaction costs will be met by me.)
How to pay
A deposit of fifty percent of the agreed fee is payable when you accept my final quote. The remaining fifty percent is due once the project is completed.
My preferred payment method is via PayPal Email (you don’t need a PayPal account). When you accept my quote, I will send you an invoice via PayPal Email for the deposit amount. (This method is secure and quick, and gives you the choice of paying by credit or debit card, or via your PayPal account if you have one.) I will send you a similar invoice when the project is completed, for the balance.
(Payment by cheque in £ Sterling or in € Euros is possible, but this is likely to delay the start of the project while the cheque clears.)
